#247 Sade, 'Love Deluxe' (1992)

New Entry

Amazingly, I’ve never actually listened to a Sade record in full. The first thing that immediately struck me was the clarity of the bass and the drums. Her voice is incredible, no doubt, but this is a record that NEEDS to be listened to on a decent pair of headphones or dynamic speakers. Mobile phone speaker just doesn’t do it justice (to be honest, it doesn’t do many albums justice, but some are passable).

The album would spawn the singles ‘No Ordinary Love,’ ‘Feel No Pain,’ ‘Kiss Of Life’ and ‘Cherish The Day,’ songs that would become stapes of easy listening radio for all time. The album would be certified multi-platinum. Following its release Sade and her band took a 7-year hiatus in which time she had a baby. The album is very easy listening by a group of obviously talented musicians. Perfect for an early evening listen, which is when I gave it a spin.
