New Entry

Destiny’s Child’s second album is the one that really launched them into the stratosphere, securing their place as one of the greatest girl groups in history and etching out a future solo career for megastar, Beyoncé Knowles. By its own standards, the album had a modest start, debuting at #6 on the charts with 132,000 copies sold. 9 months after its release, buoyed by the single, ‘Say My Name,’ the album would bounce back up to #5.

The album spawned four hit singles; the abovementioned ‘Say My Name,’ ‘Bills, Bills, Bills,’ ‘Jumpin, Jumpin’ and ‘Bug a Boo.’ It would go on to be certified 8x Platinum in the US with 6.5m sales. The album is filled with songs of female empowerment, songs about women not taking shit from shady scrubs. Destiny’s Child gave a voice to young women, especially young black women in the ‘90s and formed the foundation for Beyoncé’s record-breaking solo career.
