#310 Wire, 'Pink Flag' (1977)

I didn’t remember this record from last time. As I’ve mentioned, I never reviewed the first 200 records and unfortunately that meant I paid less attention. This album is a 21-track punk record coming in at 35 minutes. The bulk of the tracks are under 2 minutes long, some even less than a minute. It feels like a collection of snippets and ideas as opposed to fully formed songs. It’s a fun record, however, but scattered.

This album would go on to inspire multiple artists and as seen many covers of its songs by artists such as Henry Rollins, R.E.M., Minor Threat, Spoon, Lemonheads and many others. Sonic Youth and Blur’s Graham Coxon have cited this record as a major influence. The songs are short and to the point and this album is a great example of how the influence and legacy of an album can grow in time.
