I can’t read the name Ike Turner without feeling angry. The man spent his entire marriage to the Queen Of Rock ‘n Roll beating her up. A real dog.

These songs are bigger than the artists and that’s all thanks to the wonderful, powerful voice of Tina Turner. She was an unstoppable force in the ‘60s and ‘70s, and proved to still be unstoppable into much of the ‘80s. They made Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Proud Mary’ their own, as did they Sly & the Family Stone’s ‘I Want To Take You Higher,’ Rolling Stones’s ‘Honky Tonk Women’ and the Phil Spector-penned ‘River Deep, Mountain High.’ But the jewel in the crown of this collection is the Tina Turner-penned ‘Nutbush City Limits.’ Thankfully, Tina managed to get out of this one alive and became an inspiration for, not only female musicians, but for women.
