#480 Miranda Lambert, 'The Weight of These Wings' (2016)

Country music gets a bad rap. Not sure why, but so many people are immediately turned off by it. Country, like any other genre of music, has its good artists/songs/albums and its bad. Miranda Lambert, another artist I’d never listened to before, is one of the good. At 24 tracks, this 2-CD album (I think these days it’s more accurate to call it 2-volume), titled ‘The Nerve’ and ‘The Heart’ respectively, is a lot of country listening. To be honest, I could have lived with this being a single-volume record. The album deals with Lambert’s divorce from Blake Shelton and subsequent relationship with Anderson East.

The album received huge acclaim on release, being listed on many Best Albums Of 2016 lists. My favourite tracks included ‘Pink Sunglasses,’ ‘We Should Be Friends’ (what a bassline!) and ‘Runnin’ Just In Case.’ Until I confirmed that he wasn’t, I was convinced that Tom Morello was playing the guitar solo on ‘Highway Vagabond.’ An album with a lot of heart and emotion. A nice surprise.
