#485 Richard and Linda Thompson, 'I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight' (1974)

The first time I heard about Richard and Linda Thompson was the last time I did this challenge. I’ve not heard of them again until now. Search all you like, you won’t find a bad review about this record, their debut record as a husband & wife duo. Surely they’re not an obscurity. They have some big names performing their songs; Elvis Costello, Mark Ronson & Arlo Guthrie. I’ve listened to this record a few times and I’m just not getting it. Look, don’t get me wrong, there is some great songwriting on the record, but there are also some songs which are akin to sea shanties and bard songs.
