#486 John Mayer, 'Continuum' (2006)

New Entry

Sweet vindication. Last time around, one of the artists that I felt was grossly overlooked was John Mayer. Full disclosure: I’m a big fan and I’ve listened to this album probably at least 500 times in itself. When most people think of John Mayer, they think of the twee pop song, ‘Your Body Is A Wonderland.’ Mayer is one of the most underrated guitarists of our time (has been Stevie Ray Vaughan – he even inducted him into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame in 2015) and the company he keeps proves that he’s a musician’s musician (regularly performs & records with Pino Palladino & Steve Jordan – look them up, their credits are too long to list).

His third studio album, ‘Continuum’ has sold in excess of 5 million records worldwide, it won one Grammy and debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts on release with 300,186 copies sold in the first week (it was held off by Justin Timberlake’s ‘FutureSex/LoveSounds’).

John Mayer has soundtracked my entire adult life. This album was a released a few months before I went on the road with a band that I briefly managed. We listened to it constantly and I think of that tour every single time I hear this album.
